Colorado THC Water Scare

Recently, reports surfaced that a town in Colorado had discovered that there was THC in their water supply. People started freaking out; news articles began to appear warning people not to drink the water, shower with it, or even use it in cooking. The advisory was in place for two days and 700 people were without water.

The whole ordeal began when a company was drug testing employees with a field testing kit but was noticing that there was some discrepancies in the results. The company decided to test the tap water, thinking that it would serve as a control for further tests by showing what absolute negative looked like, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Captain Michael Yowell said. When the field test showed it’s results, it stated that the water was testing positive for THC. The company reported these findings to the town’s public works department, which then used field tests in a few spots in the water system and found THC positive results in one of the town’s five wells, as well as other locations in the system. It became even more strange when the sheriff’s department found that the well that had tested positive for THC had been broken in to.

Health officials didn’t get any reports of symptoms from drinking the water but the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was called in to collect some samples to send to the lab. The advisory to avoid the water was issued out of caution, saying that short term ingestion could impair peoples’ coordination and could potentially increase anxiety and paranoia in some. But after extensive investigations in to whether or not the water contained THC, it was found that it didn’t and the field test was probably showing a false negative. The police still don’t know who broke in to the well and are still looking in to it.

Cannabis Causes Stink In Colorado – Stoner Blog

Stoners love the smell of their marijuana. Some people love it so much that they have actually created perfumes that resemble the smell of the flowers. However, the perfumes differ from the traditional stink of marijuana, which usually resembles a skunk. This bittersweet aroma is getting people really upset, especially those who don’t want to smell it. There are even some businesses, such as a small barber shop in Colorado, who are deciding to turn away customers who carry the smell of cannabis with them.

Hugo Corral is the owner of the barber shop and he’s gone as far as to hang a sign in the window of his shop that says “Please do not come in if you smell like marijuana, there are families here who don’t want to smell it. This is a business, not your home”. Corral went on to tell the Guardian Daily that he feels that people who smell like weed are disrespectful, especially to the families that come in to the shop. Some customers have complained that the smell can get so bad that it seems as if someone is smoking right in the chair while they’re getting a trim.

This situation has definitely begun to cause waves in the community, with Corral being categorized as discriminatory but because smelling like marijuana doesn’t fall under race, sex, religion, or sexual orientation, and other constitutionally protected categories, those who say they feel discriminated against have almost no ground to stand on. Extremely unfortunate, seeing as how apparently this business was making money off of these weed smelling smokers and the plan to ban them may eventually effect business.

If people smell like marijuana, there’s really no reason to bar them from entering places (unless that place is perhaps a preschool). While some people claim that the smell is “offensive” and “rude”, the same could be argued for the person who is blowing out a lungful of cigarette smoke while simultaneously pushing open the door to a business. Not everybody smokes cigarettes and it can be offensive to those who don’t smoke when someone passes by them, reeking like tobacco. The same could be said for alcohol. If someone is drinking and then goes to a store, the smell of booze carries with them. Alcohol could also absolutely be considered an offensive smell. While not everyone wants to smell it, it seems like these rabble-rousers only have a nose for marijuana and not the other offensive smells that people can carry with them.

When attending a sporting event, one always expects to get some junk food. From hamburgers to cotton candy, arenas are always the best place to forget about being healthy and eat something that’s just plain awful for you. With the new marijuana laws, people were definitely curious as to how the sporting leagues would handle this new change. The Colorado Rockies baseball team seems to be handling it pretty well and has begun to take steps on how to increase their profit from the legal marijuana industry, with a new business plan that is sure to not only to bring in more fans of a younger variety but truckloads of money that will benefit the already thriving legal marijuana business that has started in the Rocky Mountain State.

Sources from the Rockies team are saying that the team plans to start selling food items that contain cannabis at the games next season. One of the officials in the MLB said that the Rockies organization has given the team the go ahead to add pot brownies to the ever growing list of awesome junk food that you can get at these games. Officials have even said that they are thrilled with the new business plan and note that they will probably make tens of thousands of dollars once the brownies hit the stands. Once the entire stadium is good and baked, there are other treats to be eaten as well. Because not only are people going to be buying brownies, they’re more likely to snag some after-brownie snacks once the pot kicks in, am I right? As mentioned above, sporting events have every kind of junk food imaginable!

The brownies are even going to be keeping themselves true to the Colorado state, using a strain of cannabis that has become known as the Rocky Mountain State strain. Named Durango Bango, this bud is rumored to be the best kind that you can get in the state. Whatever the brownies are made with, they’re going to be dank for sure. As this plan continues to gain attention, we’re sure to see other sports teams adapt the same cannabis friendly attitude. Washington is sure to be next or perhaps another Colorado team will add these medicated treats to their concession stand menus. Hell yes for pot brownies!

Stoner News; G-Day Approaches In Colorado

G-Day (Or Green Day, not to be confused with the band) is almost upon us, the day which marks the open marijuana market in Colorado. With the day only three weeks away, dispensaries are preparing for the onslaught of cannabis craving stoners when the plant finally becomes legal. Now you’re surely wondering where the issue would be with this situation. Lawmakers in Colorado have begun to worry that the amount of weed that is available won’t be able to fill the demand of the public once the legalization is official.

In an event that will genuinely rival Black Friday, lawmakers are not only concerned about the shortage of buds, but at the actions that some people will take. Since Colorado has been seeing record low temperatures so far this year, people lining up for hours in the cold to get their hands on legal weed could pose a problem, not to mention a serious health risk. The legalization goes into effect on January 1st, 2014 at 8am. The Denver city officials suspect that people will be setting up tents outside of the pot stores in order to get first dibs on the newly legal plant. Unfortunately, even though the list of permit requests is numbered over 100, there will be an estimated twelve recreational dispensaries open in Denver when legalization takes effect.

Dispensaries will be in chaos. Not only citizens of Colorado will be there. There are chartered busses that will be bringing cannabis tourists in to the city to enjoy the newfound freedom. The marijuana in these dispensaries will only be purchasable by cash, which raises concerns for the security of the dispensaries. Marijuana is not cheap and a lot of cash will be exchanging hands on this day in Denver. Another issue is that there are dispensaries that will be open but not licensed to sell recreational use. Officials believe this will cause a good deal of confusion among some of the cannabis tourists expected to show up.

Colorado has spent six months developing every aspect that they could of legalizing and regulating the plant. From childproofing the packages the cannabis comes in to rules while driving high, they feel like they’ve covered everything, even though they’re on totally new ground. Much like the country of Uruguay, the world will be watching Colorado very closely on January first and hopefully, stoners in that area will keep it civilized and calm. For those who do plan on camping outside the pot stores and waiting for them to open, please dress warm!
